Michael Phelps has been suspended
from competition for three months by USA Swimming, the latest
fallout from a photo that showed the Olympic great inhaling from a
marijuana pipe.
The sport's national governing body also cut off its financial
support to Phelps for the same three-month period, effective
Thursday.
"This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was
violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael
because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds
of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a
role model and a hero," the federation said in a statement.
"Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has
committed to earn back our trust."
Phelps won eight gold medals in Beijing.

Dew, take me to Canada with you next time. I want to go sooo bad.

It’s hard to look up to his agenda.
More taxes? well that infringes on my liberties. How can I be expected to provide health care for people who indulge in risky behavior such as drinking, smoking, unprotected sex, or morbid obesity?
If I were to be resposible to provide these individuals health care, what is their responsibilty to me?
Glad it’s working for you.

These Canadians have it made when it comes to health care. We had my daughter 13 weeks ago, and it didn’t cost us a dime. She has appointments every 2 weeks, and my wife had a nurse come to our house everyday for 3 weeks, all paid for(by taxes of course). All and all, if you can handle the bone hurting cold, it’s a wonderful place to live. I like it here. The taxes are higher than that of the US, but you have to look at the benefits you get along with it. If you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol it’s pretty expensive too. A pack of cheap smokes are $7.95+sales tax. A 6-pack of bud-light will run ya around $12.95.

I don’t think they have threatened to take away his(Phelps) medals, because he was tested prior to the event and passed. I think it’d be pretty silly if they did. As previously stated, our new president has openly admitted he has smoked marijuana on several occasions, and he still got voted in. I’m sure more people look up to him, than a swimmer.

A snowboarder has his medal taken away for pot in the last winter games or maybe the one before that… but if I am remembering right they gave it back to him.

I’ll think of you as I stroll along the beach tomorrow.
How’s the socialized health care working up there?
They can’t strip Phelps of his medals can they? It’s not like pot is performance enhancing in any physical sport.

Yes, MeAmerican, I’m in Owen Sound, Ontario.
The weather is currently -4°C = 24.8°F
We expecting 4°C = 39.2°F tomorrow(WOOHOO). I don’t think I’ll be seeing anything in the 70’s till about June. It won’t stop snowing till late April, mid May.

Are you really in Canada? How’s the weather? It will be in the 70s here tomorrow. HA! Put that in your bong and smoke it!

seektruth, I just wanna let you know first hand, I’m in Canada. NO WHERE is it “legal” in Canada to possess, distribute,or consume marijuana without a prescription. It is “decriminalized” in many places, that is to say you get fined for possession of smaller amounts. However, don’t think you can walk downtown with a fattie hanging from your lip, and not get harassed by the police. On the Western side of Canada, you’ll find places where you may get away with that. You can even find “coffee shops” where marijuana is easily obtained. There’s many states and counties in the USA where marijuana is “decriminalized” also. Also, don’t think it’d be easy, or an overnight thing to “legalize” marijuana. It’s illegal under “U.N. Law”. Just like federal laws supersede California’s legalization of marijuana, U.N. Law probhits US from just “legalizing it”. Trust me, the United Kindom has been going through hell with the U.N for years over there really relaxed marijuana laws.

Wait4me, smoking pot does not make him any less of an athlete. If it was steroids, I could see the big deal, because that’s something that could give him an edge. Pot or none, he’s still amazing. Any by the way, just because something is illegal, doesn’t always mean it is wrong. I guess it’s just easy for some people to let their government and their spiritual leaders determine their morals for them without any questions or thought. If we were in Canada where smoking is legal, this wouldn’t even be an issue.

First, jlb, to assume that i dont spank my kids, or that I am not a good parent is very arrogant of you.  OK you all win, I will stop posting on this subject because I obliously dont know anything about the world (at least according to Al Gore, a 12 y/o knows more than us adults) Also I guess all of you should be writing letters to kelloggs because they didnt think he was a good role model for them and they dropped him.  Just saying that it wasnt the medias fault butterflykisser it was his for doing something that he knew was wrong and illegal.
