The North routed the South 7-0 in the Southern League All-Star Game, but three Mobile BayBears participants enjoyed solid performances, including surprise starter and promising Diamondbacks prospect Matt Torra.

Eight Mobile BayBears were in attendance at Regions Park for the Southern League All-Star Game, six of them appeared in the contest, and a whopping five of them started in the game. In a contest that saw the South surrender seven runs to the North, scrape together just four hits, and fail to plate a single run, three BayBears provided some glimmer of productivity in an otherwise forgettable game for the south.

Kyle Cofield was tabbed to start the game for the South when Birmingham's own John Ely was declared unavailable due to his start Sunday. Then Cofield himself was a late scratch in Favor of Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Matt Torra, who only learned of his selection to the team last week. Nevertheless, Torra was up to the challenge, striking out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect first inning.

Obviously things went south for the South after that first inning, but two BayBears were responsible for half of their team's meager hit total. Third baseman Ricardo Sosa and shortstop Pedro Ciriaco both singled. Ciriaco was replaced after two at-bats, giving him an aesthetically pleasing .500 batting average for the contest. Sosa made his mark the night before by winning the Home Run Derby.

Unfortunately, Sean Coughlin, Chris Rahl, and Cyle Hankerd typified the rest of the South's lineup, combining to go 0-for-9 with four strikeouts. Rahl came into the game as a defensive replacement in the sixth, so he was only 0-for-2 and did not whiff on the night. He did, however, have the distinction of making the final out of the game. Pitchers Jarrod Parker and Barry Enright were in attendance, but did not appear in the game.
