Demetric Bennett scored a game-high 22 points as South Alabama cruised to a 76-to-58 Sun Belt conference win over New Orleans tonight. The Jaguars (16-and-7, 10-and-2) jumped out to an 11-to-nothing lead and never looked back. U-S-A held a 43-to-23 halftime lead and held New Orleans to just 22 percent shooting in the first half. Daon Merritt added 13 points for South Alabama while Ernest Little added 12. Bo McCalebb scored 20 points to pace the Privateers (10-and-12, 6-and-5) but was just 4-of-12 from the field. The junior, who entered the game fourth nationally in scoring, was 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Jamie McNeilly scored 16 points -- 14 in the second half -- after going just 1-of-8 from the field in the opening period.
The preliminary autopsy report indicates the man who shot and killed Okaloosa County Deputy Tony Forgione died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
