Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale and Mobile Mayor Sam Jones weigh in on negotiations to keep Senior Bowl in Mobile. The two talked to Randy Patrick tonight at the opening of the Senior Bowl's new museum located in Senior Bowl headquarters on Dauphin St. in downtown Mobile.

The city has put up their bribe (oh yea this is supposed to be a carrot!) and now the Senior Bowl organization has to take the bait.  Will they accept the bait and get hooked or go elsewhere for more money? Who knows? I hope that they make the best choice for them - not necessarily for Mobile. JMO

Correction: A budget was approved - but not the mayor’s budget. Fox10’s web site said that they want to allocate only $115,000 to the Senior Bowl if the Senior Bowl officials sign some type of 5-year contract/agreement and then they said they would give the Gulf Coast Classic $47000 and still wanted to give them $200,000 on top of that. It still looks like the city favors the classic over the Senior Bowl and this certainly cannot be seen as being progressive since the Senior Bowl has proven over and over again that it makes money for the city without fail. Thank you city council!

Why in a city the size of Mobile did he (Sam) not any competion? They didn’t really even have to be bright (and we sould have voted for them)! Between him and Obama this city and country and doomed!

Update: City council rejected the mayor’s proposed city budget due to being unrealistic.  Senior Bowl still has option to leave Mobile and I hope they read between the lines.

Update: City council meeting in progress. It looks like the mayor is pushing to finance the classic over the Senior Bowl, as many suspected would happen. The many millions of dollars that the Senior Bowl brought in over the years is past history - the mayor wants to drop support for the Senior Bowl and promote black teams here instead. Too bad - for Mobile. JMO

I guess that as long as Sam Jones wants people to believe that the classic brings in more money than the Senior Bowl, the Senior Bowl is doomed in Mobile.
