The father of star Alabama cornerbackSimeon Castille said today his son's arrest over the weekend was
NOT warranted.
Jeremiah Castille said he was working to get the misdemeanor
charge of disorderly conduct dismissed.
But, in an interview with The Birmingham News, the elder
Castille also said his son should not have put himself in a
position to be arrested at 2 a.m. yesterday on "The Strip," a row
of bars, restaurants and other businesses popular with University
of Alabama students.
Tuscaloosa police Captain Greg Kosloff said the case was
referred to city court and declined to release details of what led
to the arrest. He did say it did NOT involve alcohol or fighting.
Jeremiah Castille said the arrest was unwarranted based on
reports from witnesses.
He said a lawyer representing the family hoped to meet with a
representative of the Tuscaloosa Police Department and have the
case thrown out.
Coach Nick Saban has yet to comment publicly on the arrest of
Castille, a senior and a member of a team leadership council.
Simeon Castille was a preseason All-Southeastern Conference pick by
league media last month.
