The Mobile BayBears have established a season high for consecutive wins, beating West Tenn 4-1 Thursday for their fifth straight victory. Brooks Brown (1-0) was the winning pitcher in his second start with the BayBears since a call up from Single-A Visalia. Brown held West Tenn hitters to one run in six innings, and struck out five opposing batters. The BayBears fell behind early, on an RBI single by Prentice Redman in the third inning. Down 1-0, Carlos Gonzalez hit a two out home run to center field in the bottom of the third, and the BayBears never trailed after that. RBI singles by Wilkin Castillo and Javier Brito in the eighth inning put the BayBears in front 4-1. Justin Upton and Chris Rahl both had two hits for the BayBears. A.J. Shappi pitched a scoreless seventh inning, and Abe Woody pitched two scoreless innings to close the game for his fifth save. The BayBears will try for their first series sweep of 2007 Friday, with LHP Greg Smith (4-3) pitching for the BayBears, while West Tenn's starting pitcher is TBA.
