Thirty-seven of the state’s best senior prep football players have been named to the Alabama roster for the 21st annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic Dec. 17 in Mobile.
Jackie O’Neal, a 28-year coaching veteran that guided Reeltown High School to the Class 1A state football championship in 2001 and into the finals three other times, is the head coach of the Alabama team for the first Alabama-Mississippi Classic ever played in December.
The annual contest has been staged on the first Saturday in June since its inception in 1988. The date change was necessitated by the earlier summer reporting date required of many senior players by their respective colleges and universities.

Representatives from the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA), the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), each of the eight AHSAA Athletic Districts, and the All-Star Classic games committee selected the players.
According to the selection guidelines for the Alabama team, at least one player must be selected from each of the six classifications and one from each of the eight athletic districts.
O’Neal, who served as an assistant in the 1992 classic won by Mississippi 17-14 and again in the 2002 contest won by Alabama 21-17 will be joined on the Alabama coaching staff by Glenn Vickery (offensive coordinator) of Daphne, L. C. Cole (defensive coordinator) of Sidney Lanier, Jack Hankins of Thomasville, Dan Klages of Eufaula, Jerry Hill of Brooks and Brett Burnett of Pelham.
The Alabama roster is as follows:
QUARTERBACKS: Barrett Trotter of Briarwood Christian and Casey Weston of Prattville.

WIDE RECEIVERS/TIGHT ENDS: Julio Jones of Foley, DeKendrick of Prattville, Daniel Berry of Colbert Heights, Kyle Mitchell of Brooks, and Courtney Upshaw of Eufaula.
