HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Jurors deliberate Monday on a penaltyfor Jamal Roydrick Woods, who was convicted of capital murder in
the fatal shooting of two men at T.G.I. Friday's restaurant in
Huntsville in December 2006.
Jurors will recommend either death or life in prison without
parole, but that decision isn't binding on Madison County Circuit
Judge Laura W. Hamilton.
The judge will sentence the 24-year-old Woods later.
He was convicted Friday in the deaths of Tanqueray Beavers and
Thurston Turner, both of Athens. Jurors also returned guilty
verdicts of attempted murder and first-degree assault for the
injuries suffered by Autora Rogers of Athens and William Reliford
of Hazel Green, also shot in the restaurant.
Prosecutors argued the shootings were over a dispute involving
Woods' wife.
Woods attorneys contend Woods felt threatened by the victims.
Woods played football at Davidson High School in Mobile.
