congested, there's good reason. Alabama and Auburn both have
separate season-opener games today, and when you mix football
traffic with Labor Day travelers, you get jammed roads.
Triple-A spokesman Clay Ingram in Birmingham says even a trip to
the grocery store could take longer this weekend.
Nationwide, 34.6 million people are expected to travel 50 miles
or more this weekend. That's only a point-two percent increase from
Labor Day weekend last year, Ingram says.
But with both Alabama and Auburn holding their first games of
the season, that percentage is expected to be greater in Alabama.
Crimson Tide fans headed for Tuscaloosa on Interstate 20/59 from
Birmingham are being advised to exit at Exit 100 and take Alabama
Highway 216 into Tuscaloosa.
Extra police and state troopers also are on patrol.
