Following a career day in the University of Alabama’s homecoming win over Houston on Saturday, Crimson Tide senior defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry was named the Southeastern Conference defensive line player of the week, the league office announced today.
Gilberry, from Bay Minette, Ala., turned in a dominating performance in the Tide’s 30-24 victory over the Cougars. He recorded a career-high 11 tackles in the game, including nine solo stops, as Alabama held the high-scoring Houston offense to seven first-half points. His first sack of the game resulted in a Houston safety and helped the Tide build a 23-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Tide defense recorded five sacks in the game, with Gilberry leading the way with two. He was credited with 4.5 tackles for loss on the afternoon and tallied a pair of quarterback hurries. The UA defense forced two turnovers on Houston’s final two offensive possessions to preserve Alabama’s fourth victory of the season.
The Tide returns to SEC action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when Alabama travels to Ole Miss to face the Rebels. Kickoff is set for 11:34 a.m. (CDT) from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Go Rebels!!!  Beat Bama!  Hotty Toddy!!
