St Clairsville, Ohio - An Ohio police chief accused of snooping on the woman who bore twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick says he entered the woman's home because he saw the basement door wide open.
The statement comes from audio tapes played at the trial of suspended Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter on Thursday. The tapes show he laughed when a state agent told him about the criminal investigation and later began crying during questioning.
Investigators have said Carpenter and Police Chief Chad Dojack from neighboring Bridgeport schemed to sell items taken from the home to paparazzi.
Surrogate Michelle Ross is also expected to testify Thursday.
Carpenter says on the tapes he entered Ross' home when he saw the open door and secured the home after seeing some personal items inside.
