Carthage, Mississippi - A Leake County man is in jail accused of shooting an off-duty Madison County deputy during a domestic dispute.
Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner says the shooting happened Thursday afternoon while deputy Bee Hudson was visiting his estranged wife at her home.
Waggoner says the wife's former boyfriend, Jeff Ferguson was also there and the wife called Leake deputies to have him removed.
Ferguson left the scene and Hudson was found shot in the right shoulder about 20 minutes later. Waggoner says investigators believe Ferguson hid in the woods and shot Hudson, who had stepped outside.
Hudson had surgery to repair an artery. He was in a Leake County hospital in good condition on Saturday.
