Ocala, Florida - Ocala police say an officer shot a suspect in the leg during an early morning burglary investigation.

According to a news release, Cpl. Eric Reese exchanged gunfire with a suspect who had broken into a building Tuesday morning. The officer had been placed inside the business, which already was the site of three recent burglaries.

The suspect escaped during the confrontation, but officers later located him outside a pharmacy.

David Alan Strickland was taken to an Ocala-area hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg. He will be taken to Marion County jail after his release and charged with burglary.

The Ocala Police Department will conduct an internal investigation into the shooting. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has also been notified.
