(Below is how the experiment got started)
My boss, Dan Cates, called me into the office with a grin on his face. I had no idea what was about to happen.
He buttered me up with compliments and then dropped the assignment bomb. "Let's take kind of a radical approach and see if it's possible. Can you go most of the month Monday- Friday for four weeks without buying gas, without driving?"
For me, that means finding ways to travel 14 miles roundtrip without getting behind the wheel.
Before I agreed to the assignment, I wanted to know what some of you thought about the idea.
Destiny Gray can't imagine not buying gas for the month. "Oh my goodness! How are you gonna get to work? How are you gonna get to the grocery store?"
Even with gas prices going up everyday, most of you said no way to giving it a try.
Yolanda McCray gave me a strange look when I asked if she could do it.
She softened the blow of my assignment with humor. 'Well I mean, you could you go get a horse and a buggy but you got to feed the horse."
In the end, I agreed to the assignment and came up with the title PUTTING IT IN PARK.
My results will be featured Monday-Friday on News 5 at 10PM.
I also plan to blog my daily challenges so check back for updates.
After the novelty of the challenge wears off, frustration will surely set in.

Gas Hoarding Drains Pumps

I see it as challenging but able to be done without too much suffering. I could do it but I don’t have to worry about traveling busy streets to go to a job out here in Saraland. I don’t know how the bus routes are where you have to go. Grab a bike girl and go for it. When push comes to shove you’ll be amazed at what you can do! It’s a mind set.
