MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's state sales tax holiday kicked
of last night at midnight.
During the holiday, which runs through Sunday, the state waives
its four percent sales tax on selected items.
During the state's third sales tax holiday, many cities and
counties are also waiving all or part of their local sales taxes on
eligible items.
The tax-free weekend is meant to give parents a break as they
make back-to-school purchases.
Items eligible for the sales tax waiver include clothes costing
up to $100 per item, computers and educational software costing up
to $750 per item, school supplies costing up to $50 each and bound
books costing up to $30.
