OSLO, Norway - (AP) - President Barack Obama is the surprise winner on the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

Obama's name had been mentioned as a possible recipient, but
many Nobel watchers believed it was too soon into his presidency.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee saw it differently, saying "Obama is
now the world's leading spokesman" for the kind of international
diplomacy it has sought to stimulate. The committee said it decided to give the prize to Obama
to "promote what he stands for" and for the "positive
processes" that he's started. The prize was created partly to
encourage ongoing peace efforts -- but Obama's work is at a far
earlier stage than with past winners of the prize.

The committee cited Obama's initiatives to rid the world of nuclear
weapons, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy
and cooperation over unilateralism. It also praised the "more
constructive role" the U.S. is playing on climate change under
Obama's leadership.

Obama woke up to the news before 6 a.m. Eastern
time. He plans to attend the Nobel prize ceremony December 10 in Oslo to accept the award and its $1.4 million prize.

Obama is the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
The first was President Theodore Roosevelt. He received the
award in 1906 and was also the first American winner.
President Woodrow Wilson was awarded the prize in 1919 for his
role in founding the League of Nations. The institution ultimately
failed, but served as a forerunner of the United Nations.
Former President Jimmy Carter won the prize but not until 2002,
more than 20 years after he left office. Carter was recognized for
his mediation in international conflicts. The Nobel committee
chairman said afterward that Carter's award should be seen as a
"kick in the leg" to then-President George W. Bush's hard line in
the buildup to the Iraq war.
In all there are now 21 U.S. Nobel Peace laureates, including
former Vice President Al Gore, Martin Luther King Jr. and Henry
Kissinger.

Maybe this is where the stimulas money went. Who knows, as SNL said he has done nothing, for this country. Although he has done a lot to the country. None that I can see that has been good. Change yes. Good,No.
Gondi(sp) did not even win the peace prize. So how is this fair. He was only in office for two weeks when he was nominated.

maybe he won it for his slide of hand trick. saying he is bringing troops out of iraq when he is putting more in.

Dear Leader.

I’m trying to be objective here and ask just exactly has Obama done to earn such a prestigious award??

Honestly, I can’t think of one accomplishment. Not one.

Makes ya wonder just who runs the Nobel committee?

My thoughts too, sheltiedad.

I don’t believe it is the Christian God that is shining favorably on the Obama.

A Christian living in God’s will shows obedience to God and his life will be spent in service to God.

I don’t see Obama’s life showing the fruits of service to God.

I defer to judge him though as God does work in mysterious ways.

However, the socialistic/communistic government Obama is preaching leads me to believe that another force may be at work here.

I thought you had to actually do something to win these awards, not just talk a good game.  Sure puts a whole new light on the Nobel Prize for me.  The Obama fans can praise him and say what they want, but can any of them explain how he could win such a prestigious award.  What did he do?

Gimme a break!  He doesn’t even know why he won the thing and says he is less deserving than others on the list.

Did you read anything about the heroism some of those other people displayed at great risk to their own lives?  Like Irena Sendlerowa (also known as Irena Sendler):

“A Roman Catholic who created a network of rescuers in Poland who smuggled about 2,500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw ghetto in World War II, some of them in coffins.” She died in 2008. Read the entire obituary for the extent of her heroism. She smuggled children through underground tunnels, with fake documents, under ambulance floorboards, all at the risk of her own life.

She once said of her work: “Every child saved with my help and the help of all the wonderful secret messengers, who today are no longer living, is the justification of my existence on this earth, and not a title to glory.

Or maybe…it is part of the plan of deception and lies so many are too blind to see…

Be still, open your eyes and ears…

It’s so sad to hear all of the negative comments about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. When will we stop looking at the man and start looking at what God is doing? Don’t get mad because he has favor over his life. Him winning this award and having nothing to show for why he should’ve won, according to many, tells you that it was God’s will. It could be another one of His mysteries that isn’t for us to understand but to just accept. Hate on haters!!!
