WASHINGTON (AP) - The No. 2 Democrat in the House says Capitol
Hill lawmakers are going to give up the automatic pay raise they're
due next year.
Maryland Democrat Steny Hoyer says it would inappropriate for
Congress to take its annual cost of living pay hike in 2010 while
the economy is in such bad shape and so many people are losing
their jobs.
But lawmakers are going ahead and pocketing the $5,000 salary
hike they got at the beginning of this year to raise their salaries
to $174,000.
Congress automatically gets a cost of living pay increase under
a law passed 20 years ago. During years when it's politically
difficult, they'll give it up.

Two for the price of one.  They would be lucky to get us.  I am sure that we could save the American people some money.  My grandfather taught me to be a penny pincher.

Good idea Chaser… I agree. Lets find out what the requirements are. I will split the $174,000 salary with you…so thats $87,000 per year for you and $87,000 a year for me.

Only uninformed people will believe that they are actually going to forgo this raise.  What they actually should do is take a pay cut.  Maybe I should run for congress, I could work for much less money and save us taxpayers a lot of money.  $174,000 could pay at least 4 teacher salaries.

didn’t they just give themselves a 90,000 dollar a year “Public Relations” raise.  It’s supposed to allow them to keep thier constiuents informed of what they are doing, and how great a job they are doing for you.  B.S. they wil take this raise, we just wont hear about it from the liberal media

I’m Sorry, If the public believes this they also believe there is no recession, they will just get their monies under another voucher/name.
