Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and other local leaders voiced their disgust with the Pentagon's decision to once again delay the $40 billion tanker contract.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday a decision on the contract will be put off until a new administration is in place.

Bay Haas
Executive Director, Mobile Airport Authority
"I'm not disappointed. I'm disgusted that we'd be here today! ... We're facing the same kind of monkey business that we faced (44 years ago when the Government chose to close Brookley Air Force Base). It is disgusting"

Mayor Sam Jones
Mobile
"We are outraged. This community will suffer as a result of this decision. It also sets a dangerous precedent for procurement by the Department of Defense. The procurement here is being based on political influence and political posturing with no real focus on the merits of the air craft."

Win Hallett
President, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce
"How many times do we have to win this thing before it is ours? Boeing has hijacked it twice. We don't know if they're going to play by the rules the next time around."

Steve Nodine
President, Mobile County Commission
"Today's decision ... is not in the best interest of the American war fighter and not in the best interest of the American taxpayer. Boeing has ... politically terrorized the Air Force into a no win situation."

Let’s see… our gutless government has decided to let the next administration decide the fate of the KC45. Senator Obama, the senator from Illinois, HOME of Boeing, and already a critic of the Northrup award, might be the next President. Since Obama feels that building the tanker here in Mobile is outsourcing to foreigners (someone send him a map of ALL 59 states) what chance do you think we have??? Vote for Obama and ruin Mobile’s chances. Remember, it was McCain who exposed Boeing’s graft and corruption in the original tanker contract. It’s just another example of the inexperience of a junior senator who hasn’t even finished his first term trying to con us all.
