Officials say the nation's hospitals are near
a deal with the White House and a key lawmaker to pick up part of
the cost of President Barack Obama's plan for expanded health
coverage.
These officials say under the emerging agreement, the hospitals
would accept lower-than-anticipated payments under Medicare and
Medicaid, the federal health care programs for seniors and the
poor. A precise number was not available, although several days
ago, talks were focused in the range of $150 billion to $155
billion over a decade.
Spokesmen at the nation's largest hospital groups either could
not be reached or declined comment. The officials who described the
talks would not be identified by name, citing confidential
negotiations.

Why won’t Obama and congress be on the health care plan they are trying to force the American people to be on?  They need to give up they current coverage and go on the new coverage plan they trying to pass.  They also need to be on the Social Security retirement instead of they own retirement system.

I can agree that there needs to be some kind of health care reform. I don’t know if this is the “right” plan though. I think there are a lot of folks who do fall between the cracks, but there are also many who abuse the system. I am not sure “forcing” people to have insurance is the answer, because so many people who have the option of having Medicaid and All Kids never apply. What good is it going to do to impose a fine on individuals who are too lazy to fill out an application and will never pay the fine anyway. I agree that “most” of us pay taxes-but as far as groceries go, there are those that avoid taxes on that,so really, unless they are out at the mall, I’m not sure what significant contribution they are making into the tax base. I agree that I am paying for everyone else-otherwise why would my private premiums be so high, and my cost to be admitted to the hospital be astronomical. I will never forget after my first child, calling my insurance company because I had an 80/20 plan, based on their reasonable and customary fees (based on Medicaid payment)-I ended up paying over half of that OB bill. Not fair a bit. And not a darn thing I could do about it.

Patriot. Obama is not considering government take over of an entire industry because someone would say that is socialism. Creepy Crawly Communism. These companies need to be regulated. They can’t quality control themselves and they sure aren’t going to miss making a buck.

Who do you think is getting FREE healthcare? When I purchase something locally, I pay nearly in taxes. ANYONE who buys milk, eggs, tennis shoes is paying for it!

Overhead, you know? Hospitals were taken over by businessmen. They are for profit.

I do not know the answer. I do know that a $500 deductible, 80% out of pocket and $30 copays for medicines is too much even when someone is making as much as $12 per hour.

I don’t think Jesus called it socialism when he said, “Feed my sheep.”

Obama is so intent on spending trillions of dollars on many things. Why doesn’t he purchase all of the drug manufacturers and then prices might come down?  The major cost of treatment is the cost of the medicines a person has to take, and the drug companies charge way too much anyway. Of course, they claim that the reason for the high costs is that they are using the money for research and development of new drugs.  The government can bring these costs under control and lower the costs of health care in the process. I have seen no mention of this in all of the articles that have been written on the high cost of health care. I wonder why Obama isn’t considering this?

Did you know that the cost of one Tylenol tablet in a hospital can be as much as $9.00 per tablet? Nine dollars! That s simply ridiculous and falls under the category of price gouging in my opinion and should be treated as a criminal matter.

We are already PAYING for everyone who either doesnt have insurance or it hasn’t covered an entire bill. 70% of people who file bankruptcy because of medical bills HAD INSURANCE. Their bills were too high for them to pay off. We cannot have people losing their homes, their jobs, their lives because they have illnesses they can’t afford.

One question - Obama keeps talking about “affordable” health care when discussing his national health care plan. Does this mean that those currently receiving free health care will have to actually start paying something for this national health care plan? This would make it more agreeable to lots of people. I guess this is wishful thinking, but Obama will find some means to pay for his plan. JMHO
