WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush is down to his final 100 daysin office as of Sunday. But don't expect a quiet fade into the
Texas night.
Faced with the bleakest financial downturn in decades, Bush will
keep speaking about the economy, calling world leaders about it,
meeting with business owners and perhaps attending an overseas
summit.
Beyond the financial mess, there is a daunting list of
unfinished business.
Bush has been hoping for a Mideast peace deal built around the
outlines of a Palestinian state before his presidency ends. That's
considered unlikely.
There's been progress in pushing North Korea to get rid of its
nuclear arms, but the communist country has a spotty record of
following through on its pledges.
Perhaps most notably, the United States and Iraq still are
without an agreement governing the presence of U.S. forces after
December 31st, when the U.N. mandate runs out.
