BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal and New Orleans Saints
owner Tom Benson are scheduled to make an announcement about the
team on Thursday.
News of their joint appearance at the Louisiana Superdome led to
speculation that a deal to keep the team in the city might be
complete. The Jindal administration declined to reveal details.
Sen. John Alario, who attended a morning briefing with the
Jindal administration's negotiators on the deal, said the state
could pay the team less than $6 million each year, depending on how
much money the Saints get from other income sources.
The arrangement would be far less than the $23.5 million the
state is currently paying the Saints annually in a direct cash
subsidy.
