ATLANTA (AP) - Bobby Petrino has resigned as Atlanta Falcons
coach in the middle of a disasterous season for the franchise. A
person familiar with the situation confirmed Petrino's decision
under condition of anonymity because the team had not yet made an
announcement.
Petrino left a successful program at Louisville to replace the
fired Jim Mora this year amid great expectations for the Falcons.
But shortly after his arrival, things began to unravel with star
quarterback Michael Vick being suspended from the team and
ultimately convicted on federal dogfighting charges.
Without Vick the Falcons have suffered through a 3-and-10 season
so far, including a 34-to-14 loss to New Orleans last night.
