49 year old Sarah Echols of Bay Minette died instantly during a crash as she traveled north on Highway 59 around 7:30 this morning. Police say the driver of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling the other way crossed into the northbound lane and hit Echols head-on in her 2014 Hyundai Tuscon. It happened at the intersection of Municipal Park Drive and Highway 59 in Loxley.
The driver and a passenger in the Jeep were airlifted to USA Medical Center.ORIGINAL STORY:
The Loxley Police Department is currently on the scene of a serious crash on Highway 59 in front of the Loxley Civic Center. Loxley PD tells News 5 that at least one person was airlifted for medical treatment.
The crash appears to be head-on and has the northbound lanes of Highway 59 closed, southbound is restricted to one lane.
News 5 has a crew on the scene and will provide updates when information is available.
