CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) - Two northwest Florida men pulled another man from a burning vehicle on Tuesday night off Highway 90 in Okaloosa County.
Authorities say Ivan Rios was driving his vehicle down Highway 90 when it crossed the south shoulder and eventually hit a tree. Authorities say the car then caught fire.
Colby Bridges says he was traveling home from the gym at that time. He saw the inferno, and another man by the name of Warren Fleeman trying to pull the victim from the car.
"He was completely unresponsive at that point," Bridges said. "I tried to do some initial things and check him but with the fire, I knew we couldn't stay right there. So I grabbed his right arm and basically just back-peddled as fast as I could."
Bridges says it can be hard to pull someone from a vehicle, so it's good he had help from Fleeman.
Bridges says he does not want to be called a hero.
"The people who are heroes to me are the ones doing this on a daily basis," Bridges said. "Our first responders, police officer, soldiers overseas."
Bridges say he did speak to the victim, and he's doing better.
