Homeschooled student in Crestview arrested for online threat

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) - A 12-year-old homeschooled student from Crestview has been arrested for allegedly making an online threat.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the boy sent the threat from an online school portal.

The student who was the target of the threat lives in the Tampa area, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators said the threat showed a collection of guns and ammunition with the caption "Many guns to die from". Another post said "So you want to die?"

The sheriff's office says the 12-year-old was arrested Thursday evening at his home. He admitted to sending the messages but said it was meant to be funny. The boy told investigators he was trying to stick up for a girl who was being bullied.

The boy has been charged with sending a threat to kill or do bodily injury, which is a felony.
