OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) - A northwest Florida man who played college football over 40 years ago is now suing the NCAA.
Patrick Atkins says he played for the University of Wyoming and Illinois State University, and during his time he experienced a lot of head trauma and nothing was done.
He says the head trauma has caused memory loss and he also experiences bizarre behavior.
"At the Mayo Clinic, the neurologist there did a scan and I've got frontal lobe damage."
Atkins says he's not suing the NCAA for money, he wants to spread awareness and improve conditions for younger players.
"I just want to see athletes taken better care of," Atkins said. "I want to see their scholarships protected, not jerked away if they get injured."
Atkins says his team of attorneys should be going to court on his behalf in the next three to six months.
