Emergency officials in Northwest Florida want drivers to watch out for black ice

(WKRG) - As temperatures begin to fall into Wednesday evening, emergency officials want drivers to watch out for black ice.

Authorities say roads in northern Escambia County could see the most ice.

Molino resident Diane Carmen says she's been home all day because of the weather.

"This is the first time I've stepped outside because of the cold and the ice," Carmen said. "Our steps and sidewalk were covered with ice. Plus we had snow."

Officials say they want drivers to watch out for the ice until at least Friday.

Carmen says a lot of Floridians are not used to driving in these conditions.

"You'll be sliding," Carmen said. "If you step on your breaks that's very bad. Basically don't be on the roads if you don't have to."
