What's Working: Little Gym Helping Kids Stay Active and Use their Brains

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) - Many of you made New Year's resolutions to get fit, but a gym in Fairhope has nothing to do with losing weight. It's called The Little Gym, and it's geared toward children.  It's all about keeping kids active and helping them academically too.

Owner, Claire Hall Black, says kids leave their computers at home and start moving.  She believes kids spend too much time in front of the screen these days.  "We have to break away from that and create an environment where they can use their brain to function in society."

Parents say they like the fact the children are exercising, but also learning valuable skills like working together, taking turns, and listening.  Mom, Amanda Herman, says, "They have a lot of structure and a lot of free time. It goes perfectly with their age."

The Little Gym is located in the Publix Shopping Center off of Highway 98 in Fairhope. For more information and a class schedule, click here.
