Portion of Schillinger Road will be closed for a month

SEMMES, Ala. (WKRG) - Schillinger Road is a popular roadway in Semmes, but for the next month it will be closed to traffic between Moffett and Lott Roads.

The road is being closed so that crews can lay new sewage pipes. The work is part of the Schillinger Road widening projects. Once the pipes are laid, crews will continue work to make Schillinger Road four lanes.

In the meantime, drivers will need to take either Highpoint Boulevard or McCrary Road as detour routes. Signs will help guide drivers.

"McCrary already gets traffic early in the morning as does Moffett because of the school traffic," said Secris Wood who drives along Schillinger Road daily. "Now with all the other traffic it's going to be pretty congested.

Schilllinger Road is expected to re-open on May 4.
