"Hank" first service dog buried at Battleship Memorial Park

Mobile, AL (WKRG) - It’s a huge honor for a four-legged war hero.  Dozens of people attended a service to honor a war dog named Hank.  Hank served tours of duty in Kuwait and was owned by local veteran Lloyd Pursley.  When the dog passed away it was decided he would be buried as the only dog at the Alabama War Dog Memorial at Battleship Park.  Hank now represents all service dogs that are part of the military or public safety.

"It means absolutely everything, Hank was a gentle giant, a loving dog filled a hole in my heart when we left Vietnam and had to leave our dogs behind, more than 4,000 dogs were left behind and I was very lucky when I was able to adopt Hank," said Mobile Vietnam Veteran Lloyd Pursely.  Pursley worked with service dogs during his time in the service.
