BREAKING: Firefighters battle fire at Kimberly Clark paper mill

MOBILE, AL - Article was updated at 4:20 a.m. to include new information.

Mobile Fire-Rescue firefighters responded early Thursday morning to a fire at the Kimberly Clark paper mill on Bay Bridge Road in Mobile.

The first call reporting a fire in the roof of the plant came in just before 2 a.m.

A piece of equipment in one of the buildings blows out hot air, which caused part of the insulation to spark and catch on fire, according to a firefighter at the scene.

This is the second time in less than 24 hours that firefighters have responded to a fire at the facility. The first fire was reported around 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Workers told firefighters there was a small fire in the same building for the same problem earlier this week, but firefighters were not called for that incident.

News 5 has a crew at the scene but has not been allowed on the gated property to see the damage.

The Mobile mill employees 600 people and produces bath tissue and paper towels under the brand names Cottonelle, Scott and KC Professional.
