25 Mobile County trucks ready with sand for icy road conditions

MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WKRG) - Twenty-five trucks are standing by in Mobile County, ready to disperse sand on county roads that may become icy Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The Mobile County Roads Department has announced they'll keep all county roads open during the pending freeze Tuesday night. Road crews are on standby at each of the County’s three Road Camps and will respond on a case-by-case basis if roads or bridges experience icing.

Twenty-five trucks will be loaded with dry sand and parked under cover ready to go. Up to 250 personnel available are if needed.
 
Below are the Road Camps and crews on standby:
Camp 1 – 1150 Schillinger Rd North;  18 trucks
Camp 2 – 7075 McDonald Rd., Irvington (just north of I-10 ramp);  4 trucks
Camp 3 – 18325 Hwy 45 N, Citronelle (south side of city) 3  trucks
25 trucks total on standby
 
The Mobile County Roads Department maintains 1,402 miles of roads and 162 bridges (1,122 miles paved, 280 miles of dirt).
 
The Mobile County Commissioners urge all drivers to use extra caution when driving in freezing or stormy conditions.
