One firefighter suffers minor injury in large plant fire

Thomasville (WKRG) - Update 11:15pm

One firefighter suffered a minor injury battling a fire at Louisiana-Pacific OSB Mill in Thomasville Thursday night.  Mayor Sheldon Day said  five fire departments battled the blaze which was confined to multiple conveyor systems that feed wood products in the mill.   The conveyors are made of thick rubber mats.  The rubber was the primary source of the fire, "That's why smoke was so intense", said Day.

The fire spread quicker than expected.  Day said firefighters from Thomasville, Fulton, Grove Hill, Hel Western and Grove Hill as well as plant employees, "Did their job the way they were supposed to do it and minimized the damage".

He said the injured firefighter stayed on the scene and continued battling the blaze.  It took firefighters 30 to 45 minutes to get it under control, but, they stayed for three hours putting out spot fires.
