ATMORE, Ala. (WKRG) - The mother of an Atmore teen, accused of shooting another teen and leaving him paralyzed, is also now charged in connection with the shooting.
Yashetta McKenzie is charged with attempted murder. She is the mother of 17-year-old DeAndre Mitchell, who is accused of shooting 17-year-old Trenton Atchison last Tuesday.
Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks tells News 5 that investigators believe McKenzie was an "active participant" in the shooting and evidence places her at the scene.
