BREAKING: Wahlburgers Coming to OWA Development in Foley

Foley, AL (WKRG) - OWA, the under-construction amusement park in Foley, announced Wednesday morning that Wahlburgers will be a tenant in the entertainment complex.

Wahlburgers is owned by the Wahlburger family, including the three brothers Mark, Paul, and Donnie. It is currently part of a reality show on the A&E network.

The new Wahlburgers restaurant at OWA will be the ninth location, but it will be the second largest in the country.

This is the first of many future tenant announcements at the complex.  It is one of seven anchor locations for OWA.

"We're pulling from a regional base from Destin to New Orleans as far as our regional element and bringing in Foley Fairhope and that kind of local area as well," said Ray Schaefer with Gravity Architecture.  Smaller outlets were also announced today. They include Sunglass World, Fairhope Soap Company, Alvin's Island, Utopia and Hershey's Ice Cream Shop.

Hiring still needs to be done.  Officials say they plan on seeing nearly one-thousand applicants over the course of five job events.

"So right now if anyone is interested in employment opportunities but all they would have to do is go to our website which is Work at," said HR Director Stella Holland.

Officials with the under-construction amusement park are planning a major announcement this morning.  Details are slim at this point.  A spokesman would only say this is a last-minute announcement on tenants that will be part of the project.  This announcement could involve well-known entertainment, dining or lodging brands that could also be located on or near the OWA site.  A news conference is scheduled for this morning at 9 am.

At last check, officials said the development was still on track to open this summer.  They have been interviewing hundreds of candidates for hundreds of jobs over the spring.
