D'IBERVILLE, Miss. (WKRG) - A Mobile man was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident on Friday.
Lieutenant Jason King said April 27, 2018, at approximately 1:25 P.M., Officers responded to a car crash with injuries on I-110 south, near the Rodriguez on ramp. The preliminary investigation indicated a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado operated by 48-year-old William Lee, struck the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic. Immediately after the initial impact, the Chevrolet Silverado struck a 2008 Hyundai Sonata on the rear driver’s side of the vehicle. Lee fled the scene, but was followed by occupants of the Hyundai Sonata. D’Iberville Police Officers took Lee into custody a short distance from the crash under the I-110 overpass.
The driver, and only occupant, of the Chevrolet Sonic was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital where the driver later died of his injuries. The driver and passenger of the Hyundai Sonata were also transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. William Lee was transported by American Medical Response to a local area hospital for minor injuries and was released into police custody after release from the hospital. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Lee was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and booked on the felony charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury with a bond of $500,000.00. His charges were upgraded to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Death and now has a one million dollar bond.
