Local Veteran Gets National Recognition

Mobile, Al - Mobile native A.B. Grantham says he hopes recent national recognition he's received will help bring attention to the plight of Vietnam veterans still struggling with the war.

Grantham, along with other wounded Vietnam vets, is the subject of a photo taken by John Olson in 1968.  It's part of an exhibit now on display at the Nuseum in Washington commemorating the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War.  Grantham was shot in the chest during one of the bloodiest battles of the war, The Battle of Hue.

The photo first appeared in 'Life' Magazine.

Recently, Grantham has been involved in several projects on a national level, including being featured in a new book called 'Hue 1968' by author Mark Bowden.  It chronicles the battle as a turning point in the war.  The last chapter features Grantham's story.

As part of the trip to the Nuseum for the opening of the photo exhibit, Grantham was also interviewed for stories by several national news outlets including the Washington Post and CBS News.  Grantham sat down for an interview with Correspondent David Martin which are on CBS Sunday Morning.
