THEODORE, AL (WKRG) -- A Thursday evening shooting in Theodore was part of a home invasion attempt that authorities say led to the homeowner returning fire and injuring three suspects.
Captain Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office says the homeowner on Thomas Road is an elderly man and war veteran who was shot in the home invasion attempt, but managed to return fire. The individuals may have been known to each other from a previous home invasion attempt this month.
The condition of the suspects are unknown, but we're told they're all in custody at this time.
News 5 cameras saw the elderly homeowner rolled out on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. He appeared to be conscious with non-life-threatening injuries.
Burch says a preliminary investigation suggests that two of the suspects were able to escape with their injuries and drive away in a getaway vehicle. They ended up at the Dollar General on Dauphin Island Parkway, where the first crime scene developed (as seen below on WKRG Facebook Live).
The third home invasion suspect was taken into custody near the home on Thomas Road.
We're yet to hear of any charges -- we'll have the latest on News 5 at 6:30 and 10:00.
