Brewton woman dies after car loses control on icy road, overturns into creek

(WKRG) - A Brewton woman died in an accident after the car she was a passenger in lost control on the icy roads and overturned into a creek on US 29 Wednesday afternoon. 

According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials, the single-vehicle accident claimed the life of 42-year-old Tressa Mechell Richards. 

Richards was a passenger in the car when the driver, Norma Jean Jerkins, lost control over a patch of ice on the roadway and overturned into a creek, according to officials. 

Officials say the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Andalusia Regional Hospital, as well as two other passengers, Regina Kay Stanford, and a 6-year-old child. 

Richards was pronounced dead at the scene, ALEA says. 

The crash on US 29 occurred about 10 miles south of Andalusia. 

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
