UPDATE: Escaped Alabama inmate recaptured

MONTGOMERY, Ala - (WKRG) - Update

A state inmate who walked off a job site in Montgomery on Monday is back in custody.  Elmore County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended 34-year-old Michael Deshaun McLeod at about 9 p.m. in Wetumpka after a tip led them to a gas station where McLeod surrendered without incident.    

McLeod was assigned to the Frank Lee Work Release Center in Deatsville and serving a 20-year sentence on a 2014 conviction for discharging a gun inside an occupied vehicle or dwelling in Montgomery County.  He now faces charges for the escape.

Police are searching for an inmate who walked away from a work-release jobsite. Michael McLeod was serving time at the Frank Lee Youth Center for shooting a gun into an occupied building or vehicle. Investigators say he walked away from his assigned job location Monday morning in Montgomery.   McLeod was last seen wearing a black Jacket, white tee shirt, and wearing glasses.
