BREAKING: Plane Down South of Brewton Airport

BREWTON, Ala (WKRG) -- Deputies are investigating a plane down in the area south of Brewton Airport in Escambia County, Alabama.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office says they received a call from Pensacola Approach for the area reporting a plane down Tuesday at 1:12 p.m.

According to deputies, the call was for an aircraft that went off the radar and called for assistance due to engine problems.

The location was given at 4.5 miles southeast of the Brewton Airport. ECSO says law enforcement, fire and medical were dispatched to the location.

The Sheriff's office says they sent up an aircraft who was able to locate the plane in a field at the intersection of Woodchuck Road and Travis Road in East Brewton.

According to ECSO, the aircraft is a Cherokee P28, single-engine, occupied by two people who say they are from out of the state.

Deputies say both people were able to walk away from the plane, which had minor damage due to a fence.

The case is under investigation by the FAA who is in route to the scene, according to the Sheriff's office.

The Sheriff's Office says it has several people on the scene investigating.
