"Billa Bears" will soon comfort kids who encounter cops

MOBILE, Ala (WKRG) - Officer Justin Billa was shot and killed on February 20th in the line of duty. But his love for the community will live on through a new foundation started by his wife, Erin Billa

Erin Billa tells WKRG News 5 that she has started a foundation to honor her husband, Officer Justin Billa and families of other fallen first responders. The Justin Billa Foundation will also work to bring the community and police together.

One of the main missions of the Erin Billa Foundation will be to carry on a tradition close to Officer Billa's heart. Billa carried toys in his patrol car and handed them out to children facing difficult circumstances. In fact Erin Bill tells News 5 there were still toys in the trunk of his patrol car when she received his belongings.

The foundation is working to comfort kids with a program called "Billa Bears." The "Billa Bears" will be a way for officers to connect with the smallest members of the community. News 5's Devon Walsh sat down with Erin Billa Friday. See her interview on WKRG News 5 at 10.

The Justin Billa Memorial Foundation is already planning its first big event, a community picnic. You can find more information on their Facebook page:
