Cancellations and Closures Due to Hurricane Nate

WKRG Staff - WKRG -- Here's a list of event cancellations in our area due to Hurricane Nate.

ACCEL Day and Evening Academy -- to close ACCEL Day and Evening Academy on Monday, October 9, 2017.  Classes at ACCEL Day and Evening Academy will resume on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, weather permitting.

Moffett Road Assembly of God --has cancelled all Sunday activities.

Bethel AME Church, Mobile -- Sunday services are cancelled on Sunday,  October 8th.

Pensacola State College -- will close at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, and remain closed through Sunday, Oct. 8. All activities and classes, whether on campus or online, are canceled during this time. The College will resume normal operations, activities and class schedules on Monday, Oct. 9

Calvary Assembly of God -- Sunday Services cancelled

Dauphin Way Baptist Church -- All services cancelled for Sunday. Church office should be open on Monday.

Flora-Bama -- Closes at 6pm Saturday

Mobile Museum of Art -- Mobile Museum of Art closed at noon on Saturday, October 7.

Providence Hospital: Due to the threat of Hurricane Nate, Providence Hospital in Mobile will close its entrance doors at 8 p.m. tonight, with the exception of its Emergency Department entrance. The ER entrance will remain unlocked and the hospital will continue to treat ER patients as its normally does. All other entrance doors will be reopened Sunday morning as soon as the worst of the storm passes. Patients in the hospital tonight will be allowed to have one visitor staying in the room. Please be aware that Providence Hospital is not a public shelter.

Christ Church Cathedral - 115 South Conception Street, Mobile, Alabama has cancelled all services and events scheduled for Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Walmart (Rangeline Road) - Will be closing at 6:00 p.m. Oct. 7th

Dickson Total Touch Child Development Center in Prichard - Will be closed Monday but will resume Tuesday.

Mars Hill Church - Mobile and Fairhope services will be cancelled. A live stream is available at 10 am.

Spring Hill Baptist Church - No services Sunday Oct. 7th

First Baptist Church in Irvington -  No services Sunday Oct. 7th

Wade Baptist Church (MS) -  Will have NO Sunday services or activities on October 8

Pensacola Symphony Orchestra - Opening night concert and dress rehearsal have been cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather. Originally scheduled for Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre, the concert was the first of the 2017-18 season.

The Symphony is working to reschedule the performance and will notify patrons when additional information is available.

Bankhead Tunnel --  According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the Bankhead tunnel will be closing Saturday around 7:00 a.m.

Mobile Regional Airport -- Will close at 4 pm Saturday and reopen at noon Sunday.

Pensacola International Airport - Will close at 6 pm Saturday. Passengers with impacted scheduled travel to/from PNS should contact their airline for specific flight information and rebooking/cancellation details.

Christ United Methodist -- Campus Closure: Due to the likelihood of Tropical Storm or Hurricane conditions forecast for this weekend, Christ United Methodist Church will be closed Sunday, October 8. All morning services and ministry events for that day are cancelled. We will be open normal operating hours on Monday, October 9. The Pumpkin Patch at Christ UMC: The Pumpkin Patch will closed down at 12:00 p.m. Saturday. We plan to resume normal operating hours on Monday at 9:00 a.m.

WAVE Transit System -- The Wave Transit System will suspend all bus service, including Fixed Route and MAP Services at 3:00 pm, on Saturday, October 7, 2017.The last inbound and outbound buses departing the GM&O Building, The Shoppes at Bel Air, and Prichard Hub will be at 2:00pm.

Navarre Pier

Navarre Pier will be closed as of 5 p.m. on Saturday unless weather conditions indicate it should close earlier.

The Take a Kid Fishing event, Navarre Fishing Rodeo and Fish Navarre Weekend have been rescheduled (pending approval) for October 21 and 22. For more information, visit or

WSRE StudioAmped Concert -- WSRE's "StudioAmped" performance by Johnny Hayes & The Loveseats, scheduled for Monday, Oct. 9, has been cancelled. Tonight's performance by Nashville songwriters Alissa Moreno, Bridgette Tatum and Amanda Colleen Williams will take place as scheduled starting at 7 p.m. in the WSRE Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio at Pensacola State College. The remainder of the "StudioAmped" lineup also will be performed as scheduled, resuming Tuesday, Oct. 10 with Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival. The complete "StudioAmped" concert schedule is available at

Gulf and Meaher State Parks -- Meaher State Park in Spanish Fort, Ala., and Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Ala., will close at noon on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. No new reservations are being accepted for cottages, cabins, or campsites until Tuesday, October 10, 2017. This is subject to change based on evolving weather forecasts.

Choctaw High School -- All extracurricular activities for Saturday, Oct 7th and Sunday, Oct 8th are cancelled due to anticipated bad weather from Nate.

Baldwin County School System --  The Baldwin County Superintendent says at this point, he does not see a need to close school Monday. It depends mainly on the conditions of roads and I won't know that until Sunday afternoon.

SAT tests set to be administered Saturday morning WILL continue. However, all other Baldwin County Public Schools activities Saturday and Sunday are canceled, including all trips out of the county on Saturday and Sunday.

City of Gulf Shores -- City officials announced that beginning Saturday, public beaches, the Gulf State Park Pier and all city facilities will be closed to the public. Jack Edwards National Airport will close to the public at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Gulfport Music Festival --

University of West Florida -- All UWF locations will be closed Saturday, Oct. 7 at noon through Monday, Oct. 9. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. Normal university operations, classes, events and campus activities will resume Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Destin Seafood Festival --

OWA -- The amusement park in Foley will be closed Saturday and plans to reopen next Friday, October 13th. The closure will also impact the new attraction Town of Terror which will now open next weekend.

Dauphin Island's West End -- The public beach on the West End of Dauphin Island is closed to the public ahead of the storm. Local officials are urging residents in the area to take precautions.

BaseFEST Concert -- The BaseFEST concert on board Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola scheduled for Saturday, Oct 7th is cancelled due to potential inclement weather from Tropical Storm Nate expected to arrive in the Gulf Coast area early Sunday. The concert will not be rescheduled.

Camp Dixie Chicken Dinner -- UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA- 

Due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Nate on the Mobile area, the University of South Alabama is canceling all classes, labs and student activities on the main campus and all Baldwin County campuses for Saturday, October 7, Sunday, October 8 and Monday, October 9. The Marx Library, Student Center and Student Recreation Center also will be closed.

All non-essential University offices also will be closed on Monday, October 9. Employees with questions should check with their supervisors to determine if they will need to report to work. USA Health's hospitals and clinics will operate on normal schedules.

The University anticipates resuming a normal schedule on Tuesday, October 10.

Cruisin' The Coast - 

Cruisin' The Coast® officials have decided to condense the remaining events in this year's cruise as a result of weather issues associated with the incoming tropical system. Executive Director Woody Bailey said that today's events will continue as planned, but the weekend activities will be abbreviated.

Bailey said, "We encourage Cruisers to enjoy today as planned. Tomorrow, Saturday, our Cruisin' venues and other activities will be cancelled except for our closing activities at Cruise Central." Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. and will consist of cash prize giveaways, drawing the winning ticket for the Make-A-Wish® Raffle Truck, and the unveiling of the 2018 raffle vehicle.

Gates to Cruise Central in Gulfport at Centennial Plaza will open at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Bailey added, "We want our Cruisers and guests to have the best time possible and enjoy the Mississippi Gulf Coast to the fullest, but still head home with time to clear the area before we begin to feel effects of the storm," said Bailey. "We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation."

Cruisin' organizers said that participant stamping cards should be turned in at any stamping venue before 5 p.m. today so they may be entered into the drawing tomorrow. "We will accept them with or without their stamping being completed," said Bailey. He also said that for those not present, winnings will be mailed later next week. There will be no official Cruisin' activities or events on Sunday.

University of Mobile -- Due to Tropical Storm Nate, the University of Mobile campus will be closed noon Saturday. Information on reopening campus will be posted on the university website at by 10 a.m. Monday. Classes are cancelled Monday. Unless notified otherwise on the UM website or UM Alert system, classes will resume Tuesday. Details at

Bishop State Community College -- All locations will be closed on Monday, October 9, including all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. Normal College operations, classes, events and campus activities will resume on Tuesday, October 10. Also, all non-essential College offices will also be closed on Monday, October 9.

Mobile Public Library -- All locations of the Mobile Public Library will be closed Saturday for the storm. The Ben May Main Library in downtown Mobile will also be closed on Sunday. Normal library operations will resume at all locations on Tuesday, October 10.

Alabama Coastal BirdFest -- All BirdFest events scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled. This includes ALL TRIPS and the EXPO.

Blackwater River State Forest Campground -- The campgrounds will be closed Saturday, Oct. 7 through Sunday, Oct. 8.
