Rouses Market to Replace Winn Dixie in Orange Beach

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) - Rouses Market announced Thursday that they plan to open a new location in Orange Beach on Perdido Beach Boulevard. It will move into the 40,000 square foot facility that is currently inhabited by Winn Dixie.

Last week, Winn Dixie's parent company Southeastern Grocers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced the closure of 94 stores, five of which were on the Gulf Coast.

According to a press release form Rouses Market, the company is expected to acquire the store in late April and will begin a remodel. They plan to reopen the store in mid to late May with an expanded selection of groceries, fresh food, and beach gear.

The company also has plans for a full remodel of the store that could begin after the busy summer season, to avoid customer disruptions.

“The refresh will give Orange Beach a true taste of what we have to offer, like our Gulf seafood, prepared food, famous Gentilly and Doberge cakes, and of course our private label products," said Rouses Market CEO Donny Rouse in a press release.

Rouses Market, which is headquartered in Louisiana, currently has one store in Gulf Shores and another in Mobile. They also have plans to open another location in Mobile in the near future.

Rouse added, “the Alabama market, especially Lower Alabama, is an important part of our growth strategy, which includes remodeling existing stores and building new ones.”

The company recently introduced online grocery shopping and same-day delivery to the majority of its stores and partnered with app-based service Instacart to handle delivery for its stores in Lower Alabama.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated the Winn Dixie location in Orange Beach was closing and Rouses was moving into the location. However, the Winn Dixie will not close but convert to a Rouses store.
