Police search for driver who rammed patrol car then took off


The Orange Beach Police Department, with assistance from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, has identified a person of interest in this morning’s incident involving an individual who struck an Orange Beach Patrol Unit attempting to stop him. Mickey McDonald Jr. may have information that will assist with the investigation. Orange Beach Police say the car used to hit a patrol car has been found in Escambia County, Florida.

Escambia County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a vehicle and the driver who allegedly hit an Orange Beach Patrol vehicle Saturday morning.

According to Orange Beach Police, around 9:07 a.m. an officer attempted to pulled over a dark green Honda Civic with black rims and Florida license plate for speeding. The unknown driver began to stop near the 28000 block of Perdido Beach Blvd when the vehicle hit the officers vehicle.

A chase of the vehicle began eastbound on Perdido Beach Blvd and continued into Escambia County, Florida.

Later, Escambia County Sheriff's deputies spotted the car near Gulf Beach Highway, but the driver was able to get away from deputies. Escambia County deputies are searching the area for the vehicle. It is unknown if the vehicle is stolen, but police say the tag appeared to be switched. 

Orange Beach Police say the patrol car that was hit is damaged but drivable and the officer was not injured.

A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Orange Beach Police Department at (251) 981-9777.
