A Milton man is crediting a Santa Rosa County Deputy with saving his life. Last month, Deputy Anna Lewis responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. 60-year-old John Rollo was driving eratically on Highway 90. After several unsuccessful attempts to stop the vehicle, Rollo pulled over. Lewis almost immediately realized Rollo had not been drinking, but had a serious medical condition. Sgt. Scott Haines tells News 5 that Lewis eventually determined Rollo was diabetic. An ambulance was called, and paramedics determined Rollo's blood sugar level was extremely high. Rollo wanted to wait on his wife to arrive before going to the hospital in the ambulance. Deputy Lewis finally convinced Rollo he needed to be treated immediately.

During a Tuesday visit to the Sheriff's Office, Rollo said doctors told him he could have died had he not gotten immediate medical attention at the hospital. During the meeting with the deputy and Sheriff Wendell Hall, Rollo said Lewis' dedication and compassion saved his life. Sgt. Haines says Deputy Lewis has been with the Sheriff’s Office since May of last years and patrols the Milton District.
