UNDATED (AP) - Authorities now say at least 19 deaths are
related to a blustery snowstorm that left roads slicked with ice
and led to several multi-car pileups.
In one Minnesota town, travelers have packed into hotels after
blowing snow and poor visibility forced them off an Interstate last
night.
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has authorized the National
Guard to open the town's armory for stranded travelers.
Officials have been urging travelers to stay home, but they're
worried that people will insist on driving today anyway so they can
get to their Christmas Eve destinations. Authorities are urging
those who do take to the roads to use common sense while driving.
Meanwhile, the snow isn't stopping. Forecasters say Buffalo, New
York, and other western parts of the state could have five to 10
inches of snow by tomorrow morning.
