The man behind the idea is Congressman C.W. Bill Young, the ranking Republican on the House Defense Appropriations Committee.
That would mean Northrop Grumman and EADS would fork over half of its current 40 billion dollar win to Boeing!
Northrop officials say they don't want to split the win. Boeing leaders don't want just half of the deal either.
But that's not stopping members of Congress from asking the Air Force to consider slicing it down the middle.
We talked to Congressman Jo Bonner about a possible split deal. He tells us that he wasn't aware of the comments by Congressman Young.
Bonner says most of the talk is coming from Congress members out of Kansas and Washington State. "There has been some talk about a split contract. The irony of that is that the Air Force doesn't want that. If they did, they could have had one! We asked them that early on, what about the value of a split contract? They said absolutely not."
The Air Force plans to stay tight-lipped until after the Government Accountability Office reports back about the fairness of the competition by June 19th.
