JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - State health officials say a fourth personhas died related to complications from the West Nile virus
infection of the 2007 season.
On Wednesday, the state Department of Health said the patient, a
Lamar County resident, died last month. The case had been
previously reported in 2007 as testing positive for the virus.
The agency also reported one additional human case of the virus
in Harrison County in 2007, bringing Mississippi's total number of
cases for the year to 134.
State Health Officer Ed Thompson said it is important to
remember that mosquitoes are always active in the state and
continue to bite and transmit the virus to humans.
