SUSSEX, Va. (AP) - Michael Vick and three co-defendants have
been indicted by a Virginia grand jury on state charges related to
a dogfighting ring.
But the grand jury declined to indict the Atlanta Falcons
quarterback and two of his co-defendants on eight counts of animal
cruelty. Those charges would have exposed them to as many as 40
years in prison if convicted.
Vick has already pleaded guilty in federal court to a
dogfighting conspiracy charge and is awaiting sentencing in
December. The state charges allege he was engaging in or promoting
dogfighting, and was responsible for beating or killing dogs or
causing dogs to fight.
The charges are the first leveled against Vick in the county
where his property allegedly served as the base of the dogfighting
operation.
Prosecutors asked that the four be arraigned next month.

I am absolutely appalled that they did not tie in animal cruelty charges. What could be more cruel than forcing dogs to fight viciously, often to their deaths?

But instead, they will get a little slap on the rear end because our society idolizes professional athletes.  It’s sad when someone like Michael Vick makes more money that a teacher, a social worker, a pastor or some other valued member of our society.  Our priorities are really messed up.

They should throw him a pit with some of the dogs he trained.  Let them deal with him and if anything is left, toss him in jail and throw away the key.

They should all receive the maximum sentence and be forced to donate what money is left after the legal fees are paid, to the national ASPCA.
